Tricolour Lovestory is set up like a typical dating sim game. It’s a narrative-driven game where players are taking the role of a high school student named Ashley. Ashley takes up art as a class when our protagonist learns that his family will be away due to a work trip. Finding his love rekindling for art, our protagonist befriends a new student named Violet. However, it’s not long after that Ashely finds another childhood sweetheart, Daisy pops back up in the picture.

Gameplay will take players just under ten hours while the choices you make will alter the storyline narrative. If you fail to win his love during the game, you’ll get a prompt to reverse any wrong answers you chose and right your mistakes. On my play-through, I won Colonel Sanders’ heart, but he didn’t want me to become his business partner. The lack of romantic substance shouldn’t be surprising, as “I Love You Colonel Sanders! ” is a branded dating sim, writes Nicole Carpenter for Polygon.

Leading a business with over 24,000 restaurants across 145+ countries is no small feat, but our Chief Executive Officer, Tony Lowings, has been up to the challenge since 2019.

However, this isn’t the first dating sim parody game (and it most likely won’t be the last). There are quite a few dating sims out there that are sure to have a few people scratching their heads, so of course I did what any sane person would do and compiled a few of them into a list… Your welcome. MissTravel If you’re going to be critical, this isn’t a good game by any objective standard. Meanwhile, a good portion of the game is based around puzzle solving that’s quite a bit like Candy Crush where players are actively trying to lineup matching up three items together to rack up points.

A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator” by Kentucky Fried Chicken is more of a glorified commercial than an actual dating sim, which is a shame because they could have done so much with it. These games are usually formatted along a storyline that follows romance novels and a choose-your-own-adventure story. A lot of people thought it was a joke and moved on after entertaining the idea for a bit because that’d be ridiculous, right? It is ridiculous but little did we know, KFC apparently doesn’t joke about making a dating sim. In case you needed more enticement (which, let’s be real here, youdon’t), the game also features positively drool-worthy illustrations of KFC’s menu items, with special attention being paid to the fried chicken. But of course, we know that the entire game is simply a huge advertisement for KFC… and the people don’t care, as proven by the numerous glowing reviews left on Steam by players. To make you want to buy a chicken burger, we suppose, but how that’s going to be achieved via the medium of a Japanese style dating sim we’re not sure. KFC was putting out quite a few unique marketing attempts to get people into their chain restaurant with this dating simulator being quite unusual. If the writing in-game is as humorous as it is in this product description then the whole thing should be genuinely funny. The art style in the trailer is actually kind of amazing, too. Let’s not even talk about their KFC Gaming Twitter which boasts a description saying “Finger Clickin’ Good.” “Do you have what it takes to be the business partner of and win the heart of the most famous chicken salesman of all time?” the game description reads.

In shock news not a single word in the above headline is untrue or an exaggeration, as KFC apparently lose their minds. It’s around an hour long, but it still manages to replicate the dating sim formula incredibly well. It’s very simple, but there are still various paths and dead ends, including a few where you actually die. The art is a highlight, while the writing is funny enough to be up to the task of making you forget you’re playing an advert. But from the perspective of a content creator, this KFC game is a wet dream and what all blatant paid content should be.

You date without emotional subtext and even if you mess up, you have the comfort of the restart button that’s a click away. This is par for the course with the dating sim genre but cut down considerably. Most Japanese dating sims and visual novels can be four to five hours for one route and you might get a game over before reaching a defined ending and have to start over. The KFC dating sim does not require half as much commitment or investment as there are fewer endings and only one love interest to pursue. The dating sim isn’t difficult by any means but there are several immediate game over options where you can quit the game or retry the scene to get your perfect ending.
